Description

Cowboy Cold Brew was a conceptual project I came up with in September of 2020. A dear friend offered to make some Cold Brew from the coffee shop she worked at to truly bring the product alive. We bottled 10 flasks and sold them to our friends after documenting the product. My inspiration for western aesthetics really came out in this project. I decided to give it a modern and chic twist while still preserving the cowboy essence. It is still one of my favorite projects to date.

The process + meaning

As mentioned above, I am extremely drawn to western aesthetics. This is partially due to my childhood. Some of my favorite vacations have been when I vistited Montana. Something about the culture always has drawn me in and excites me.

I decided I wanted to do a design with a cowboy theme to it, so I began brainstorming. I choose cold brew based on a few factors. From the beginning, I liked the idea of creating the cold brew based on the high caffeine it is famous for. Approximately, there is 500mg of caffeine per 8oz of brew. Moreover, if you have a the same amount of a standard hot brew vs cold brew, the cold brew contains 3x more caffeine than the standard brew that most people traditionally use.

When I think about the high caffeine levels, I think about the grit and hard work it takes to be working on a ranch. From long days heading cattle on the field to repairing fences, the job of a cowboy is not easy in the physical sense. That’s why I imagined it fitting in perfectly with the product. Hard and long days require much energy which can be received through caffeinated beverages.
